Miguel's Profile

Hi there, I'm the guy who fell into your class at the middle of the semester.
My name is Miguel Silva, I'm 22 years old and I was born and raised in Barreiro. This is my second attempt at studying in a University, at first I was studying biology in FCUL but, unfortunately, it had a lot of mathematics and I'm not very good at mathematics (alright I admit it, I'm really lousy at mathematics).
Well, about my hobbies, I love music, I go a lot to live concerts, just last week I went to a Tool concert, it was really really good, it's an amazing audiovisual experience. I also love Iron Maiden, Disturbed, Soil, Cradle of Filth, I could spend the whole day naming bands I like but we don't have the time or the space for it, do we?! Anyway, continuing with my hobbies, I also love to watch anime (Japanese animation) and I read a lot, especially fantasy novels. Right now I'm also taking a Japanese language and culture class at FSCH, I'm currently in my third year , so now I can actually say coherent phrases and not just gibberish that I would catch in the movies or in the anime.
Since I arrived later in the semester I practically don't know anyone in the class, I just hope we can all be friends :)
So to all of you I say "Yoroshiku onegai shimasu" (Pleasure to meet you)
P.S. Yeah, that's me on the photo, I just didn't have long hair and the goatee

Joana's profile
My name is Joana, as you all know by now. I was born back in 1950 (a very good year!) in a place called Roslyn Heights, Long Island, New York.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roslyn_Heights,_New_York I grew up in a village on Long Island called Great Neck ( you can check it here http://greatneckvillage.org/ and here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Great_Neck%2C_New_York) My dad was a diplomat working at the UN headquarters in New York, so after his mission in New York he was given a post in Rio de Janeiro, so off we went on our new adventure: new school, new classmates). I've had my share of traveling and moving around! This is an old picture of me taken with my classmates of the British School of Rio back in 1959. Guess where I am!
This other poto was als taken in 1959 (at the end of the school year we'd always have a play)
My hobbies include : reading, going to the movies, singing (which I do once a week-I sing in a choir) and I also love dancing . I'm learning flamenco but it's very hard). I also enjoy cooking!
I live with my son, Daniel ( sorry no photo he won't allow me to post it) and my 3 pets: 2 dogs-mini schnauzers Bart and Chucky and a Persian cat,
Blue (yes, the survivor!).

Since I don't have Internet at home right now, I'm doing this profile on these slow, slow computers at Univ. Nova de Lx-FSCH, which, by the way, is where I'm taking the course of Lìnguas, literaturas e Culturas- Português/Inglês. About hobbies, I like listening music, mainly House and alternative almost every day. However, I listen to all the kinds of music I find interesting. For example, in my mp3 I have Pink Floyd, just as I have Nine Inch Nails, Marylin Manson, or even house mixes. I also like sport, and I got quite disappointed with the news of students' union. I was expecting to practice volleyball, and now I know they will not create any team. When I have time and a nice state of mind I also like to read, and write. And last, but not least(I know... I need to be more original.) I like to be with my friends, and share good moments with them.
So...this is all I want to say for now. If you want know anything else about me, just get to know me. Nice year of study for everybody.

First and foremost, I am very keen on reading and listening to music.I like pop and soft rock. I am also very fond of travelling and meeting people from different countries ,getting to know more about their culture, traditions and way of life.
Roughly speaking, I am very perseverent and stubborn when I have to fulfill my goals. Of course, there are lots of things that could be said but ..: "Time is money" so I will have to leave you now... :) .Bye! See you!

- I’m a bit crazy;
- I speak very fast when I get excited (don’t tease me);
- I’m kind of bossy (desperately trying to change this flaw!);
- I can be very annoying when I start to speak about my beloved friends and our adventures;
- I’m absent-minded;
- I HATE when people are rude so, watch out!
- Btw, don’t be sad or mad at me if I disagree with you or your opinion. I always do (bad old habit!)
- I always carry my MP3 player;
- I’m always late (sorry!);
- I like to design and paint, when I have the chance to be alone;
- I’m spoiled;
- I like to party or just to chill out with my friends...
Hi there new mates!
My name is Beatriz (before you ask, yes, you may call me Bia if you wish to).
I’m an 18-year-old Capricorn (not that I give much importance to horoscopes but we all end up talking about star signs).
According to the Portuguese civil identification I’m the citizen number 13327975, even though I think that my dreams are what identify me best: being S.Sebastião da Pedreira (Lisboa) my birthplace, and my residence in Queluz (Sintra).
As my Slovanian colleague, Spela, said, “Queluz, it has a palace!”. That’s right and you all should visit it, since it is both an important and beautiful monument (with great gardens and springs), as many others are in Sintra.
This is my first year in college and I had the most amazing start here in Faculdade de Ciências Sociais e Humanas! I’ve met some awesome people! They’re so open minded even though they’re different in various ways – coming from different and far places, with different ages, looks, opinions, etc.
I was mainly surprised by their ability to relate to anyone without any prejudice. I think the first two weeks’ “Praxes” were a great way to make us get to know each other, we also learnt how to trust the “new colleagues” thanks to a few group-activities, where we had much fun, for instance, with the “WaterBall” game, Quiz Contest or Dinner/Party. It was an overwhelming reception (thank you 6-pack and company)!
There are lots of things that I think are precious, such as friendship, family, the will to discover and learn new ideas and ways to express ourselves. I’m very into the arts; I wish I could know more about it but at least I’m young and curious!
I LOVE music... I’m totally addicted to U2, Pearl Jam, and, more recently Franz Ferdinand, The Kooks and Yann Tiersen. But I also listen to many others, including rock, indie, grunge and pop. I’m a live concerts and travel fanatic! I dream about being rich just so that I can reach far and beautiful places, listen to Bono Vox and Eddie Vedder whenever or wherever they perform and buy a Picasso. I also think they’re the guilty ones... These modern poets and heroes of mine inspired me not only to learn more about their language and culture but also to be politically/socially aware of my individuality through using my knowledge to think, understand and judge by myself what’s going on in the world today.
Here is a list of warnings about me and my habits:
By now you must have already realised that I’m easy going, so don’t be afraid of starting a conversation and feel free to ask for help (I’ll try my best!).
I hope I haven’t bored you to death. Kisses and hugs * Beatriz Araújo.

Jason
It's me, Jason! Well, I hope there won't be too many things to correct in my passage, but you never know! English people make obvious mistakes that don't appear strange at first, but when you look at them more closely, they become apparent.
Anyway, a little introduction about me now. I am British and Hungarian, although I never had the opportunity to meet my Hungarian family members because they died before I was born. I went to school, and didn't meet any foreign languages until I was in Year 5. This is early for England, since it was only compulsory to learn a foreign language in Year 7. We, the English, are bad at learning foreign languages, so please go easy on me; I try my hardest to impress you with a Brit that can speak Portuguese, hehe. My first language I learnt was French, and then I learnt German; but, at the time, I was not very good at learning them, and they seemed so difficult to me. By the time I had to do my national exams, I had also learnt Portuguese. I studied it for the last year of school. Then, I took my A-Levels (similar to National Exams of the Year 12 in Portugal) in these subjects, together with Maths.
As you all might remember, I used to also be a musician. But, I was never the traditional, strict musician. For example, during one concert, I had to play a solo on the 'cello. In the middle of the piece, my bow flew across the other side of the room. Gobsmacked, I didn't know what to do, so I stood up, bowed and laughed and then said, 'Now, for my next trick, I will play the 'cello with no hands!'.
Well, I guess I should stop talking so much, because I think I have recalled enough of my life story already. I would be happy to talk to anyone and help them with anything they need. I am an easy-going guy, and I try to always stay happy.
I'll leave you all with my family's saying: "Just do your best, and no one can ask for more from you." Keep smiling :)
